PhD Qualifying Examination "Capacity Provisioning and Resource Management in Next Generation Wireless cellular Systems" By Miss Jihui Zhang Abstract: There has been a rapid growth in the development and popularity in the wireless cellular communications. The next generation of wireless cellular networks is expected to carry multimedia traffic. To guarantee the different quality of service(QoS) requirements for diverse traffic types, while maintaining fair and high utilization of wireless resources, efficient resource management, specifically the resource allocation and call admission strategies in this paper, is essential for the system design. This paper investigates the unique characteristics of multiple access techniques (say FDMA/TDMA and CDMA), multimedia (integrated voice and data) applications and their respective impact on the system design, and then studies different resource allocation schemes that are adaptive to the chosen multiple access techniques and traffic conditions.
