PhD Qualifying Examination "A Review on Lecture Video Retrieval and Related Topics" By Mr. Feng Wang Abstract: The goal of distance learning is to provide a quality of learning comparable to the face-to-face environment of a traditional classroom for teaching or training. One of the fundamental problems in achieving this goal is to provide effective ways of high-level semantic querying such as the retrieval of relevant learning material relating to a topic of discussion. This paper reviews the works on lecture video retrieval and some related research topics including text detection and recognition in viewgraphs, image super-resolution. The techniques developed in this area and how they are applied in lecture video analysis and retrieval are discussed.
