PhD Qualifying Examination "A survey of video error recovery technique" By Mr. Ruiduo Yang Abstract: The internet is a packet switched, best effort, unreliable network which does not provide a quality of service (QoS) guarantee. Hence, transmitted data may suffer from packet loss and burst error. Such errors can adversely affect applications, especially those involving video data. Many approaches have been proposed to deal with these errors in order to provide a tolerable quality level in digital video applications such as video-on-demand, real-time video conferencing, video surveillance and video games. This paper gives an overview on these techniques including general video coding, error resilience coding, and decoder error concealment and transport-level error control techniques. Video error concealment methods using scalable video coding are also discussed.
