PhD Qualifying Examination "Distributed Sensor Query Processing" By Mr. Wenwei Xue Abstract: As todays sensor network applications become increasingly ubiquitous, diversified and data-intensive, the design and implementation of a DBMS-like query processing engine for sensor networks has gained a lot of research attention recently. The unique characteristics of current sensor nodes and sensor networks present new design challenges for a sensor database engine in comparison with a traditional one. In this survey, we review existing sensor network query processing engines in terms of their system architectures, underlying data models, declarative query languages and distributed query processing techniques.
