Abstract:
Image compression is an important field of research for computer
graphics and image processing applications. This exciting research
area has made some fascinating discoveries. This talk will present an
overview of image compression techniques, along with how they are
combined into a single, standard compression scheme known as JPEG.
Biography:
C. Wayne Brown is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the
University of Central Arkansas where he has been teaching computer
science courses for the past 11 years. He is currently teaching
computer graphics courses at Multimedia University, Cyberjaya,
Malaysia as a Fulbright Scholar. His research interests include a
broad range of computer graphics and image processing topics including
medical image analysis, volume rendering, image compression, and CAD.
For the past 5 years his research emphasis has been the analysis of
medical head CT images in collaboration with Dr. Gregory Lewis, a
radiologist in central Arkansas.
