From physical perception, network communication, media processing, to knowledge intelligent layers, in this talk, we will bring the millstones of research activities and related future products to achieve comfort, convenience, connection, and completion (4C) services. Computer, communication, consumer electronics, and contents, namely 4C technology, require standardizations to achieve the 4C services. The designs of information appliances in MPEG-4 and multimedia services with content-based MPEG-7 will be addressed and discussed. To match up with the Si-Soft National Project in Taiwan, the goals of the on-going MPEG-4 SoC NSC project in the National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) will be briefly introduced. From low rate HVXC speech, AAC audio, to H.26L advanced video coders in various applications in home media gateway will be forecasted. At the same time, applications of MPEG-7 information retrieval to advance the industrial capabilities of multimedia 4C services in NCKU will be briefly introduced. ********************** Biography: Prof. Jhing-Fa Wang is now a professor in National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan.
