Title: On Soft Decision Decoding

Abstract:
The talk begins with a discussion on the relationship between Shannon
limit and channel coding. Then an outline of the development on soft
decision decoding will be given. The turbo codes, low-density parity check
codes (LDPC) and tornado codes are also discussed. Finally some open
problems will be presented.
Biography:
Professor Wang graduated from Xidian University in 1960. He was a lecturer
at Xidian University from 1978 to 1983, and an associate professor from
1983 to 1986, and a professor of information engineering since 1986. His
main research interests are in information theory, error correcting codes,
digital communication, and cryptography. He has authored five books in the
area of coding theory and cryptography. He is a fellow of the Chinese
Institute of Electronics.
