Virtual Chinese Brush

By simulating the deformation of brushes and the ink depositing process, this project attempts to bring the expressive power of Chinese brushes into the digital art scene. Equipped with a natural input device, an artist paints on a piece of virtual paper in our system just like in real life. Subtle shape formation by spontaneous execution is now possible with our novel computational brush model. Our system also opens up possibilities of further developing the ancient traditions of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy by exploring new painting methods that are difficult or impossible to achieve in the physical world.
