[ Basic Programming Enrichment Course
( COMP102: Computer and Programming Fundamentals I ) ]

 
Basic Information:
The course is equivalent to the first introductory programming course "COMP 102: Computer Programming and Fundamentals I" offered to the first-year university students who are not majoring in computer science.

The course covers the basics of programming using C++. The topics include problem solving, program design, procedural abstraction, debugging and testing, simple and structured data types, recursive programming, and introduction to searching and sorting.

Students taking the course should be in the science stream. Students can be as junior as form 4 at the time of admission though the course is particularly suitable for form 6 students.

Instructional assistants with the programming and teaching expertise will be assigned to help and answer questions from students.
Other Information:

 

Lectures will be conducted over the Internet, but students need to attend tutorials and lab sections on UST campus.

Students will need to pay HK$750 when they register this course. For students who have financial difficulties may apply for exemption of their tuition fees.

Each student will be entitled for exclusive use of a designated computer throughout the course period. Upon successful completion, students will be awarded attendance certificates and eligible to apply for credit transfer at HKUST.

Time:
Will be conducted via the Internet. And there will be 6 hours' lab / tutorial sessions (2 days per week and 3 hours each) per week for 5 consecutive weeks.
