----------------------------------------------------------------------- Speaker; Professor Benjamin Arazi Ben Gurion University ISRAEL Topic: "Security Issues in Storage Networks" Date: Monday, 25 March 2002 Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm Venue: Lecture Theater F (Leung Yat Sing Lecture Theater, near lift nos. 25/26) HKUST ABSTRACT: Networked storage provides two advantages over direct-attached storage: resource utilization and improved management. However, this technology demands extra attention to security. Networked storage, especially IP-based technologies, may expose both data and the supporting storage media to unauthorized access. Current storage area networks based on Fibre Channel connections are not immune from security risks either. Since networking attaches storage to multiple systems, the data may also be exposed to internal compromise. Current security solutions are based on simple passwords, LUN (Logical Unit Number) masking, device zoning, and encryption. The lecture will discuss the security risks, the available solutions, and their advantages and disadvantages. New approaches to securing storage area networks will then be presented, and their advantages will be analyzed. ******************* Biography: Prof. Benjamin Arazi is the founder of CipherIt and serves as its Chief Scientist.
