Job Description:
GIS Application & Tool Development: Design, develop, and maintain scripts, tools, and plugins within industry-standard GIS environments (primarily ArcGIS and/or QGIS) to automate survey data processing, charting, and cartographic production.
- Web Application Development: Support the development and maintenance of internal web applications for interactive visualization of survey data (e.g., bathymetry, seabed features, metocean data) and basemap charting.
- Database Development Support: Assist in the design, optimization, and management of spatial databases (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS) to ensure efficient storage, querying, and retrieval of survey data and associated metadata.
- Process Automation: Identify manual or repetitive tasks within the GIS and data workflow and create automated solutions to improve efficiency, accuracy, and throughput.
- Collaboration & Support: Work closely with the GIS, survey data processing and reporting teams to understand requirements, provide technical support for GIS tools, and contribute to the overall data delivery pipeline.
- Documentation: Create clear documentation for code, tools, and workflows to ensure maintainability and knowledge sharing.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or above, in Geographic Information Systems, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related earth science field, with a strong background of programming.
- Programming Proficiency: Solid foundational knowledge in Python, C# and C++, which are essential for spatial data processing, ArcGIS/QGIS scripting and related SDK-based development.
- GIS Fundamentals: Understanding of core GIS concepts, coordinate reference systems, spatial data formats, and experience using popular industry GIS platforms (e.g. ArcGIS Pro and QGIS).
- Web Development Basics: Familiarity with fundamental web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and an interest in web mapping libraries is a strong advantage.
- Database Familiarity: Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL. Exposure to spatial database (e.g. PostGIS) development is a plus.
- Problem-Solving Mind-set: Eagerness to tackle technical challenges, automate processes, and develop practical solutions.
- Team Player & Communicator: Good communication skills, ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team, and a willingness to learn from and support colleagues
- Industry Alignment: A genuine interest in marine/ocean technology, surveying, or offshore engineering.
Advantageous but Not Essential:
- 1 – 2 years of software development experience in related fields.
- Familiarity with survey data types (e.g., bathymetric grids, side scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler data, geotechnical logs).
- Knowledge of CAD formats (e.g., DWG) and their integration with GIS.
- Experience with version control systems, primarily Git.
- An interest in or basic understanding of cloud services for deployment or data management.
- An interest in or basic understanding of AI-aided programming
Monthly Salary: 19K – 21K
Working Days: Monday - Friday
Working Hours: 9:00 – 18:00
Annual Leave: 12-18 days
