Welcome to my homepage!🤗 I hope everything is going well for you. Below is a brief overview of my background and interests:

I am an M.Phil. student in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), under the supervision of Prof. Chi-Keung Tang and co-supervision of Prof. Yu-Wing Tai. Previously, I served as a research intern in the Media Computing Group at Microsoft Research Asia from June 2024 to December 2024, where I was privileged to work with Dr. Xiao Li and Dr. Jinglu Wang. Prior to my graduate studies, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree from HKUST, double-majoring in Data Science and Technology and in Computer Science. I completed my undergraduate thesis under the supervision of Prof. Shueng-Han Gary Chan, in cooperation with Dr. Jierun Chen.

My research interests primarily lie in the intersection of deep learning and computer vision, with particular concentrations on areas such as:

  • 2D/3D content generation with Latent Diffusion Models (LDM).
  • 3D reconstruction with Neural Radiance Fields (NeRF) and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS).
  • Low-cost model architecture design with computationally/temporally efficient algorithms.
  • Neural network compression techniques, e.g. Knowledge Distillation (KD).

News:
  • I was honored to receive the Stars of Tomorrow Award from Microsoft Research Asia.
  • Our new preprint UVRM is available. Check out more details at my research page.
  • One paper is accepted to ECCV 2024.
  • I'm seeking a PhD opportunity in Fall 2025. 🙂

About my name: I go by the name Daniel in daily life. My Chinese name, Shiu-hong (pronounced similarly to "she hong" with an "o" sound), is typically used only in official documents and my publications.

About my name: I go by the name Daniel in daily life. My Chinese name, Shiu-hong (the official transliteration used in Taiwan, pronounced similarly to "she hong" with an "o" sound), is typically reserved for official documents and my publications. In mainland China, I am sometimes referred to as Xuhong, which is based on a different homophonic transliteration system.
