Dr. Tsz-Him Cheung, James

I am a Computer Science instructor and AI/ML educator based in Hong Kong, currently a Lecturer at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, HKUST. I hold a PhD and a BEng in Computer Science, as well as a BBA in General Business Management.

My teaching and academic interests include machine learning, artificial intelligence, large language models, programming education, and agentic AI systems. I care deeply about pedagogy, curriculum development, and mentoring students. I am a member of the task force on Intelligent grading and personalised feedback for active learning, and a member of the CSE Curriculum Committee and the Teaching Innovation Committee.

My research focuses on data-centric AI — automated data augmentation for low-data regimes — and data-efficient solutions that improve the performance and scalability of AI systems.
