Introduction:
[ The Challenge: From 2D Images to 3D Animation ]
From
personal, entertainment
to massive, commercial
purpose, if you want
to present a scene,
no matter whether the
scene is an indoor or
outdoor, virtual or
real one, making a virtual
touring of the scene
is an effective way
to allow the audiences
to navigate inside the
environment. Given a
single image of the
scene, its 3D information
will be explored using
visual clues. Its corresponding
3D model can then be
"virtually"
reconstructed and the
scene can be viewed
at different positions
and angles. Finally,
the virtual touring
can be produced by navigating
inside the reconstructed
model. This method works
for the scenes in real
or virtual environment,
even paintings and the
illustrations in the
comic books can be converted
into animations.
Extensive
computer background
is not required. As
you work on the project,
you will learn some
interesting software
tools and enjoy the
fantastic study environment
of the HKUST campus.
In addition, you can
experience and learn
the skills of being
a Computer Science student
at HKUST.
