Recruitment talk for soon to graduate master students

A recruitment talk has been organized by the Big Data Institute (BDI) in the evening of March 20, bridging potential employers to the going-to-graduate students of the MSc in Big Data Technology, at HKUST.

Both locals and international firms from different industries, including Bloomberg, TUS Holdings, Bank of China (HK), Accosys Ltd and Citadel participated in the recruitment talk. This reflected how sought after this topic is in our today’s business market. Each participating company introduced their business and background, what areas are they hiring, what kind of talents and caliber they are targeting, and answered students’ questions during their talk session.
Students response were keen in asking questions on the spot and exchanged contacts with the presenters for job application later on. The participating companies all found this occasion mutual beneficial.


This year will see the first batch of graduates from this master of science program, which started only last year in fall 2016. There are slightly over 90 students currently in the MSc program, including full time and part time, the former will complete their studies this summer in May. According to Prof Lei Chen of HKUST Department of Computer Science and Engineering who is in charge of this program, the students are particularly strong on text mining, big data computing, machine learning, and statistics. Second year recruitment of this MSc program is almost closing, and its administering academic unit, School of Engineering, disclosed that this program is indeed very popular, receiving over 1000 applications to compete for around 100 places.
