Prof. Tim Cheng Awarded the ACM/SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award
We are pleased to announce that Prof. Tim Cheng, Chair Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, has been honored with the ACM/SIGDA Pioneering Achievement Award.
To honor a person for life for their exceptional contributions to the field of electrical design automation, as demonstrated by innovations in publications, industrial products, or other pertinent contributions. The influence of the nominee's lifetime contributions determines the prize. Innovators who have made a substantial contribution to the subject and influenced the creation of new design automation techniques, tools, or practices are recognized with awards.
Prof. Cheng is a world authority in VLSI testing and design verification, as well as a significant contributor to a variety of research areas such as design automation of electronic and photonic systems, mobile computer vision, and learning-based multimedia computing. He previously directed the US Department of Defense's Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Centre for 3D Hybrid Circuits, which combined CMOS and nano-memristors for future computing systems. He has published over 400 technical papers, co-authored five books, owned 12 US patents, and turned some of his discoveries into successful commercial products. He is an IEEE Fellow, and his contributions to the subject have received widespread recognition, including 11 best paper awards and one Distinguished Paper Citation in prominent conferences and journals. He was also named a Top 10 Author in the Fourth Decade Award and a Prolific Author Award by the Design Automation Conference (DAC) at the 50th DAC 2013. Prof. Cheng has been very engaged in offering professional services to the IEEE and the academic community in general. Prof. Cheng is a well-known figure in the field, having served as editor-in-chief of IEEE Design & Test of Computers, on the boards of the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation's Board of Governors and the IEEE Computer Society's Publications Board, and on various technology advisory or working groups such as the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS).
Congratulations to Prof. Cheng on this remarkable accomplishment!
