Mini Game Design Contest 2005

Sponsored by: Hong Kong Jockey Club

All Undergraduate and Postgraduate students from the Department of Computer Science are welcome to participate in this Mini Game Design Contest. Students who are interested can submit their own idea individually or in a team no more than 4 members. Prize will be awarded to the winning candidates and the winning games will be adopted in a non-betting customer website of Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC) for members' free access. Please read the details below, fill in the application form and submit to Mr Dee Que via email () or by hand to the CS Administration Office (Rm. 3528, Lift 25/26) on or before 12pm, Mar 19, 2005 (Sat).

Award and Honorarium

Honorarium and a certificate will be awarded to the winning candidates and the programming / testing of the game concept are required to be finished and submit by June 4, 2005 (Sat). The winning games will be adopted in a non-betting customer website of Hong Kong Jockey Club for members' free access.

Project Requirement

Candidates are requested to develop an online game for Hong Kong Jockey Club. Candidates are required to conduct their own research and decided the theme of the game. The game should be made to serve the following target audience and objectives:

Objective

  • To project a young, trendy and energetic image for the website.
  • To hook customer staying in the website and revisit from time to time, looking for new things and surprise.
  • To enhance and broaden the services providing to our members.

Target Audience

  • Demographics:
    • Existing HKJC account-based customers
    • Aged 18 - 29, both male and female
  • Psychographics:
    • Need entertainment on leisure time and willing to try new things
    • Need peer support and common topics

Game Requirements

  • No special requirement in terms of topic / game logic and design. Creative ideas of all kinds are welcomed.
  • More than 1 difficult level for the game is preferred.
  • The game should be entertaining which can attracts our customers' aged 18 - 30.

Preferable game formats:

  1. Written in Flash MX or Flash MX 2004
  2. One .swf file for the final production
  3. Screen Size: 500x350 pixels
  4. One and only one scene
  5. AttachSound should not be used (use a movieClip to hold it instead.)
  6. A mute sound function should be used
  7. The program should not contain:
    • initclip
    • _global
    • _root
    • _level# // e.g.( _level0 )
    • flash MX 2004 components
  8. Functions should not be named:
    • initScore()
    • setScore()
    • endGame()
    • pauseGame()
    • startGame()
  9. No database access
