Firebird-Trained Hong Kong Team Wins Bronze at International Cybersecurity Olympiad 2026

A team of Hong Kong secondary school students trained by the HKUST Firebird Cybersecurity Competition Team has won three bronze awards at the International Cybersecurity Olympiad (ICO) 2026, held in Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia from June 27 to July 2, 2026. The achievement showcases the strength of Hong Kong’s young cybersecurity talent and highlights HKUST’s ongoing efforts to support the wider community through advanced technical training and outreach.

The Hong Kong ICO team consisted entirely of local secondary school students, who were officially selected to represent Hong Kong, China, at the international event after undergoing systematic training provided by Firebird on key exploitation topics. Before departing for Tunisia, the students were coached by the Firebird team on practical cybersecurity challenges, building up their skills and confidence for the Olympiad.

HKUST CSE and the Firebird team plan to build on this success by continuing to support local schools and competitions, helping nurture the next generation of cybersecurity professionals for Hong Kong and beyond.
