The IEEE Computational Intelligence Society recently awarded Dr James Kwok and his PhD student, Ivor Tsang Wai Hung, with the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks Outstanding 2004 Paper Award (bestowed in 2006) for the paper, The pre-image problem in kernel methods, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks,Vol. 15, pp. 1517-1525, 2004.

The award is to recognize annually the outstanding paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks two years prior to the Award decision. Papers published in 2010, for example, will be eligible for consideration in 2012. The judging is based upon general quality, originality, contribution, subject matter, and timeliness.
