Prof. Huamin Qu Inducted into IEEE Visualization Academy

Prof. Huamin Qu, Professor of Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Director of Interdisciplinary Programs Office, has been inducted to IEEE Visualization Academy (Vis Academy) in October 2020. The IEEE Visualization Academy was established in 2018 by the IEEE VGTC Executive Committee and the induction is the highest and most prestigious honor in the field of visualization.

The Vis Academy is the "visualization technology hall of fame" or the "visualization fellows assembly", and will highlight the accomplishments of the research leaders of the field of visualization that will indirectly underscore the accomplishments of the entire field. In addition to being an honorary academy, the academy will be called upon to provide technical leadership, mentoring and fostering new talents, and other community services, as necessary. Due to COVID-19, this year's Visualization Academy Induction Ceremony was conducted virtually online at the Opening Session of IEEEE VIS 2020 Conference on Oct. 27, 2020.

The research areas Prof. Qu specializes are human-computer interaction and vision & graphics with focuses on urban informatics, social network analysis, E-learning, text visualization, and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI). He is the director of the VisLab and also serves as the coordinator of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) group at the CSE department.
