CSE Alumnus Prof. Jiangchuan Liu Elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (2025)
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering proudly congratulates Professor Jiangchuan Liu (PhD 2003) on his election as Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC), Class of 2025. Professor Liu, who completed his doctoral studies at CSE under the supervision of Prof. Bo Li, is currently a professor at Simon Fraser University, Canada. He is internationally recognized for transformative contributions to multimedia computing, networking, and interdisciplinary research.
Professor Liu's work spans internet architecture and protocols, large-scale live streaming, content distribution, cloud/edge computing, and wireless mobile networking. His pioneering innovations in peer-to-peer streaming protocols have enabled the world's first million-user-scale live streaming systems, inspiring platforms such as PPLive and Twitch. With over 27,705 citations to his name and an h-index of 79, Professor Liu has significantly influenced both academic circles and the development of commercial multimedia systems. His research has not only advanced social and cloud media but also fostered product development within Canadian companies—earning him multiple prestigious international accolades.
