Exploring the Future: Highlights from the Artificial Intelligence and IoT for Healthcare Workshop

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering hosted a workshop on June 13, 2024, uniting leading experts in the realms of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and healthcare. The workshop, titled "Artificial Intelligence and IoT for Healthcare 2024," illuminating the transformative capabilities of AIoT technology in reshaping the landscape of healthcare.

Distinguished keynote speakers shared their innovative endeavors in the realm of AIoT for healthcare. Prof. Shyam Gollakota from the University of Washington unveiled the potential of AI in enhancing human auditory perception, enabling individuals to selectively focus on specific sounds while filtering out extraneous noise. Prof. Kensaku Mori of Nagoya University showcased the groundbreaking impact of generative AI on medical procedures, particularly within the realm of medical imaging. Prof. Danny Ziyi Chen from the University of Notre Dame delved into the complexities and possibilities inherent in AI-driven healthcare image data analysis, pushing the boundaries of deep learning methodologies.

Furthermore, four distinguished speakers delved into the convergence of AIoT and healthcare. Pro. Rosa Chan from the City University of Hong Kong delved into the pivotal role of AIoT in comprehensive physiological monitoring, spanning from electrophysiology to motor function. Dr. Dione Szeto from Tseung Kwan O Hospital painted a vivid portrait of the envisioned "Smart Hospital" of the future, where technology and innovation harmonize seamlessly. Prof. Hongliang Ren from The Chinese University of Hong Kong explored the advancements in intelligent minimally invasive robotic procedures, while Prof. Chenshu Wu from The University of Hong Kong introduced state-of-the-art wireless sensing technologies for digital healthcare.

Two dynamic panel discussions, moderated by Prof. Albert Chung and Prof. Gary Chan, brought together esteemed experts to share their insights on the applications of AIoT in healthcare and the challenges and opportunities arising from its integration.

The hosts, Prof. Qian Zhang, Prof. Gary Chan, Prof. Albert Chung and Prof. Hao Chen convey sincere gratitude to all speakers, panelists, and attendees for their invaluable contributions in ensuring the success of this event. Looking ahead, it is imperative to continue exploring the diverse applications of AIoT in healthcare. Together, we can unlock the full potential of AIoT in healthcare, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes and revolutionizing the industry.
