A Survey on Resource Management in Cognitive Radio Networks
PhD Qualifying Examination Title: "A Survey on Resource Management in Cognitive Radio Networks" Mr. Peng LIN Abstract: Radio spectrum is one of the most important resources for wireless communication. Recent reports show that almost all spectrums have been allocated, but the usage is seriously unbalanced. The concept of dynamic spectrum allocation is proposed for more flexible usage of spectrum, which brings in lots of new topics: spectrum sensing and spectrum sharing mechanisms, etc. In order to access the primary spectrum, secondary users should first conduct spectrum sensing to avoid the confliction with primary users. The fast developing technique compressive sensing is believed to bring a revolution to the CR spectrum sensing area. For accessing the spectrum, secondary users need to coexist in the shared bands. The various mechanisms of coexistence are discussed in this survey. We also investigate the previous researches for spectrum sharing among primary and secondary users. Besides, the sharing among primary networks remains an open problem. We discuss the motivation of primary networks and the current methodology. In this survey, we take an overview of the current researches for advanced spectrum sensing technique and spectrum sharing mechanisms. We summarize key challenges in these aspects and present the existing solutions and our considerations.
