Join Algorithms on Distributed Stream Processing Systems: A Survey
PhD Qualifying Examination
Title: "Join Algorithms on Distributed Stream Processing Systems: A
Survey"
by
Mr. Serafeim PAPADIAS
Abstract:
The recent years, a data explosion has been noted along with the
appearance of data streams that pushed research community to design
real-time monitoring distributed systems capable of handling highly agile
data with low latency. Those distributed stream processing systems (DSPSs)
must exhibit a variety of features in order to successfully achieve their
goal efficiently. In this survey, we first present and analyze the most
critical parts of existing DSPSs and describe their architecture and
computational models. Furthermore, we focus on the problem of data stream
joins, thus we mention how DSPSs handle joins. Additionally, the survey
describes several research algorithmic techniques proposed in this area,
in order to gain a better understanding of their underlying mechanisms.
Finally, we refer to new advances in join algorithms in the static
scenario that can potentially lead to new stream join algorithms with
optimality guarantees.
