A survey on data-driven intelligence in next-generation mobile networks
PhD Qualifying Examination
Title: "A survey on data-driven intelligence in next-generation mobile
networks"
by
Mr. Tong LI
Abstract:
The next-generation mobile networks are evolving into a very complex system
because of the various service requirements and super-heterogeneous network
architectures. Traditional networking approaches, i.e., reactive,
centrally-managed approaches are of limited capability and cannot satisfy the
future complex networks. On the other hand, data-driven intelligence techniques
offer as an alternative option, which is possibly superior over traditional
methods. In this survey, we make a review of the state-of-the-art research
efforts on the data-driven intelligence in mobile networks. We first give an
overview of the data-driven methodology, including design flows, advantages,
drawbacks and general principles of using data-driven methods in mobile
networks. Next, a detail introduction of mobile big data is presented. The
sources, categories, and characteristics of mobile big data are discussed. We
then summarize recent researches on data-driven intelligence from three groups,
descriptive intelligence, predictive intelligence, and prescriptive
intelligence, including pattern discovery, anomaly detection, traffic
prediction and classification, content popularity prediction and network
adaption. Finally, open research challenges and future directions are presented
as well.
