Abstract:

Curing conditions such as autism, motor skills impairments, and bipolar
disorder present a significant challenge and lack a definitive solution. In
addition to relying on conventional medical treatments, music has emerged as a
therapeutic tool with beneficial effects on medical, neurological, and
psychiatric conditions. Recognizing its potential as a supportive treatment,
the field of music therapy has been established and developed over time. As
digital technology has advanced, it has increasingly been integrated into music
therapy interventions, enhancing the therapeutic experiences for individuals.
This survey aims to summarize the theoretical foundations and applications of
music therapy, emphasizing the psychological orientations utilized in this
field. It introduces two types of music therapy approaches and provides a
timeline that outlines the development of music therapy interventions, from the
analog era to the digital era. Furthermore, this survey examines the benefits
and challenges of incorporating technology into music therapy interventions,
while also considering the associated challenges. Finally, it concludes with a
discussion on potential future developments in the field, exploring new avenues
for advancement.
