Title: "Data Management on Cloud: A Survey"

Mr. Xiaofei Zhang

Abstract:

Recently the cloud computing paradigm has been receiving significant excitement
and attention from both the academic and industry world. Even though there have
been continuous arguments that cloud computing is little more than a marketing
umbrella, encompassing topics such as distributed computing, grid computing,
utility computing, and software-as-a-service, which have already received
significant research focus and commercial implementation. Nonetheless, there
exist an increasing number of large companies that are offering cloud computing
infrastructure products and services that featured in application types and
definition.

In this survey we discuss the current data management issues on these emerging
cloud computing platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services). We firstly identify and
elaborate the main challenges that we are up fronted: 1)Data schema definition;
2)Service definition; 3)Data querying and processing; 4)Service evaluation.
Then we examine the most state-of-art Cloud data management technologies from
both system perspective (e.g., the technical support for constructing Cloud
service) and the data processing paradigm. For each part we give detailed
elaboration and comparison of different techniques as well as categories the
most recent research advantages in the field. Moreover, we discuss some
potential research directions as well as possible solutions for some open
questions.
