Title: "Interaction Techniques for Layout Editing of Graphic Elements"

Abstract:

Creating or editing a layout of graphic elements is a common task in many
scenarios, for example, the creation of diagram or photo collage. To
obtain a target layout, typically the user needs to perform a series of
manual operations, such as selecting, resizing and positioning. This
process gives the user full control of the final layout, while it is
tedious and error-prone, especially when the target layout is complex.

Selection of the elements is the beginning of the manipulation. The whole
editing process could be more efficient if the selection operation can be
performed easier. A good selection tool will bring lots of benefits,
especially when the layout is created on special devices, such as touch
screen or large screen, in which performing a selection operation need
much more effort.

For manipulation of elements, usually constraints among them, such as
alignment or equal size, should be satisfied. Many interaction techniques
provide efficient means for the user to establish desired constraints.

In this survey, we will briefly review the interaction techniques designed
for improving the efficiency of selection operation and manipulation
operation. Based on the discussion on these techniques, we will talk about
the future work, and show two potential research topics.
