by

Mr. Chengzhong LIU

Abstract:

Appeared in early 1990s, the Augmented Reality (AR) technology has been
developing fast in the past decade. Although most of the research works on
AR focused on its technical and design aspects, there is a trend of
applying AR to support users’ social interaction experiences in recent
years. This type of works is generally characterized as Social AR design
or technology.

In this survey we focus on examining how Social AR supports the users’
social interaction experiences. We firstly review the design options,
i.e., mobile AR, and related applicable social scenarios of the current
Social AR works. We then present the related challenges, concerns,
evaluations, and the addressed aspects of the social interactions of the
existing Social AR research. Finally, we conclude with the potential
directions of research in the Social AR.
