Secure Multi-Party Query Processing

PhD Qualifying Examination

Title: "Secure Multi-Party Query Processing"

by

Mr. Qiyao LUO

Abstract:

Since the introduction of secure multi-party computation (MPC) in the 1980s,
decades of research have been devoted to evaluating different functions in the
MPC setting, from simple comparison operations to complex machine learning
models. This survey focuses on secure query processing where data are stored in
different tables held by different parties. Data owners want to collaboratively
evaluate a query on their join result without revealing their private data.
Although MPC is designed to solve this problem, pairwise communication makes it
impractical to handle large groups of participants. New directions arise to
solve it then. One of the methods is the shuffle model, which only requires
participants to communicate with a central analyzer. Privacy will be protected
by owners and a secure shuffler. In this survey, we review the literature of
generic MPC solutions, specific join protocols in different models, and
statistics calculation in shuffle model; and propose possible directions for
future research.
