Abstract:

We show how MATLAB has evolved over more than 30 years from a simple
matrix calculator to a powerful technical computing environment.
We demonstrate several examples of MATLAB applications. We conclude
with a discussion of future developments, including Parallel MATLAB
for multicore and multicomputer systems.

Biography:

Cleve Moler is the original author of MATLAB and one of the founders of
the MathWorks.  He is currently chairman and chief scientist of the
company, as well as a member of the National Academy of Engineering and
past president of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
