Abstract:

In a world where technology rides an exponential growth curve, products
need to be brought to market as fast as possible. If a product is put
through a long incremental development cycle and then passed off to
marketing to develop the branding, not only will the product not have a
cohesive brand, but the product will be outdated by the time it reaches
the market. In order to deliver cohesive products that keep pace with
technology requires making large innovation jumps riding on the back of a
compelling story. To accomplish this prototype development must be a
holistic combination of design, technology, and story.

In this talk Doc North shares his rapid prototyping philosophy of
designing story and prototype, testing them as fast as possible, seeing
where they work and where they fail, and then applying these learnings to
a new prototype. Through this process it's possible to make large
innovation jumps and deliver well branded products ready for manufacturing
and brought to market.

Dr. Mike North, host of Discovery shows "Prototype This!," "In The
Making," & Innovative Design" and Outrageous Acts of Science," is an
undaunted, anything-but-mild engineer. Fusing science with media he opens
doors to awe-inspiring experiences and radical paradigm shifts, whether
his teaching days of innovation at UC Berkeley, creating a more equitable
planet as founder of ReAllocate.org [reallocate.org], going on outlandish
climate awareness adventures at savetheice.org [savetheice.org],
harnessing excess mobile processing to solve cancer challenges as advisor
to Compute for Cancer, building robots and IoT devices for clients such as
Intel and The Department of Defense at his consulting firm North Design
Labs, or creating compelling media for clients ranging from Tesla to USAID
to Discovery Communications. Dr. North is an active international speaker
delivering passionate talks on creativity and science through stories of
his own crazy inventions and those that he sees on his adventures around
the world.
