Secure e-Payment: challenges and opportunities
Speaker: Dr. Weidong Kou Chief Architect and Senior Manager IBM Software Group Title: "Secure e-Payment: challenges and opportunities" Date: Monday, 14 February 2005 Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm Venue: Lecture Theatre F (Leung Yat Sing Lecture Theatre, near lift nos. 25/26) HKUST ABSTRACT: In this talk, we will examine the recent development of secure e-payment, its challenges and opportunities. Particularly, we will look into the e-payment challenges in China. We will use a research project funded by the National Science Foundation of China as an example to examine the privacy and security issues in e-payment, and discuss how we can resolve these issues. We will also introduce an e-payment project funded by Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) to further explore the opportunities of e-payment. ********************** Biography: Dr. Weidong Kou is Chief Architect and Senior Manager, IBM Software Group, Pervasive Computing, GCG, and Adjunct Professor of the University of Maryland, USA, and Xidian University, China. He was Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology at Xidian University, and Director of Chinese State Key Laboratory of Integrated Service Networks. From August 2000 to November 2003, he was Associate Director and Principal Researcher of the E-Business Technology Institute at the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Kou is Senior Member of IEEE and was elected as Member of New YorkAcademy of Sciences in 1992. He was the recipient of 2004 Friendship Award, the most prestigious award for a foreign citizen from Chinese National Government. Dr. Kou has authored/edited 7 books and published over 70 papers on journals and conferences. He also authored 9 US/Canadian issued/pending patents. He has also served as Associate Editor for International Journal of Information Technology and Education, a member of Editorial Board of the International Journal of Electronic Commerce, and a Guest Editor for special issues on e-commerce for International Journal of Digital Libraries. He was the General Chair of 2004 IEEE International Conference on E-commerce Technology for Dynamic E-Business.
