Abstract:
The video streaming industry is valued at $700 billion and accounts for 82% of global Internet traffic. In this talk, I will explore two key research directions aimed at enhancing streaming systems through AI and big data: (1) improving the quality and resource efficiency of immersive content delivery via intelligent motion prediction, and (2) optimizing video experiences by leveraging playback statistics from crowd-sourced users worldwide. I will also briefly discuss additional research thrusts shaping the future of multimedia systems.
Biography:
Feng Qian is an associate professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California. His research interests cover the broad areas of multimedia, mobile, and network systems. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan He received multiple awards including the AT&T Key Contributor Award,Google Faculty Award, NSF CAREER Award, Trustees Teaching Award, Cisco Research Award, Google Research Scholar Award, the Okawa Research Grant, and Adobe Research Gift. He is a recipient of multiple best(student) papers, including ACM SIGCOMM, ACM Multimedia, and ACM CoNEXT.
