Over the past 2 decades, what is accompanying the rapid advancement in technology? It is electronic crimes. Electronic crimes is an important, ever-changing and challenging area in IT. Can our technology in computer security and legal system catch up with these new kinds of electronic crimes popping up everyday? A new branch in legal system - Cyberlaw has been growing to cover the vacuum in the legal system.

Luke would like to take this opportunity to share his knowledge in the field of Computer Security, Electronic crimes and CyberLaw. Hope this can act as a catalyst or starter for building up your common and practical knowledge, bringing you some interesting areas for research and career development in the future. The talk will touch on the following issues:

  • The common vulnerabilities, hacker attacks and protection of information system in this era of cyber (illustrated with landmark cases)
  • The prevention or mitigations against computer crimes for companies and organizations
  • Cyberlaw - Can our legal system, in HK and in overseas, cover this new kinds of crime? What are the difficulties in the enforcement of the relevant law?
  • Further development and Career opportunities in this ever-changing and relatively new area of Computer Security?

Speaker profile:

Mr. LO ka wing, Luke has recently joined UST as teaching associate in the Department of Computer and Engineering. Before joining UST, Luke has over 13 years working experience in the Commercial and Government sectors. Luke has taken a position as Senior Solution Consultant in the e-solution team in the PCCW, as Web Administrator, System Analyst in various Government departments, as Assistant computer officer in the computer center in the HKU and OpenU of HK. Mr. LO is specially interested in the business application of IT, IT Entrepreneurship, Computer Security and Cyberlaw.

Through years of persistent effort in pursing his interest in these areas, Luke has received: CISSP (2002-2008) / CISA (2008-2011) / Juris Doctor (HK-CityU) / Msc E-commerce (HK-PolyU) / MBA (HK-BaptistU) / Bsc(Hons)-Computer Science (Aus-Monash Univ)
