Electronic voting systems
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Department of Computer Science and Engineering FYT Presentation and Demonstration Title: "Electronic voting systems" by Mr. ZHANG, Guangda As the widespread of the touch screen, DRE, devices in US presidential elections, electronic voting gradually becomes more popular. However, it has been a long time for the voters to get a simple acknowledgement of their votes, without any possibility to check whether their votes have been correctly counted. David Chaum introduced the voter-verifiable election and provided a practical voting scheme "a practical voter-verifiable election scheme", which provides the voters a receipt. The receipt can be used to check whether the ballot is counted correctly but cannot be used to tell others how the voter voted. The scheme place trust in several components of the voting system, which raises the reliability and security of the whole voting system. In this paper, we will introduce this electronic voting scheme in a clearer and more acceptable way. Also we will conduct threat analysis on this scheme from different aspects, including the voting process, the tallying process, and some technical details. The strength and drawbacks of the cryptographic issue are also analyzed. Some suggestions for the scheme are provided at the end. *Keywords:* voter-verifiable, electronic voting, threat analysis, David Chaum Date : 29 April 2010 Time : 3pm - 4pm Venue : Rm 2578 (Annex) Advisor : Prof. Ding Cunsheng 2nd Reader : Dr. Chen Lei
