Abstract:

This project proposed and investigated a new approach to deliver better
results and user experience of intelligent personal assistant. This project
is highly relevant to the design and development of applications and
services for next generation mobile devices and wearable devices.
Currently, most intelligent personal assistant implementations such as
Apple Siri, Google Voice, and Samsung S Voice adopt a single-stage
human-computer interaction approach. The approach made by these
technologies analyzes users' commands and directly presents the results.
Multi-stage approach analyzes users' commands and asks relevant questions
to help them to refine their commands before presenting the results. This
project investigated whether a multi-stage human-computer interaction
approach would improve the quality and utility of the results. This project
included a preliminary study to determine the number of questions that
yields the optimal results and user experience and a main study that
utilized A/B testing method to compare user satisfaction with single-stage
and multi-stage apporaches. The study has shown that these improvements
yield a better user experience and user satisfaction.
