Computer Science and Engineering Student Leader Program

Objective

This program was launched in year 2013/14 by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. Student leaders will be responsible for advising first-year students who are considering Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) as their major of study in the next academic year. Active leaders can be promoted to Senior Leader and continue to serve our community. The long term goal of this program is to promote a closer relationship among all CSE students.

Requirements

  • Have already enrolled to our 4-year CSE program (Year 2 students are preferable)
  • Have a good academic record (CGA = 2.7 or above) and received at least A- in COMP 1021 / COMP 1022P / COMP 1022Q
  • Fluency in English and be able to share your thought in front of a group of people
  • Be patient and eager to answer questions from students

Duties

  1. Attend a briefing session organised by the Department
  2. Participate in a formal sharing session for the students who are considering CSE as a major in the next academic year
  3. Participate in an informal experience sharing and academic advising through the lab helping activities. We require student leaders to participate in at least one lab section of COMP 1021 / COMP 1022P / COMP 1022Q in Fall and/or Spring semester
  4. Improve our 4Y Intranet by identifying interesting FAQs and spotting inconsistencies
  5. Provide feedback to improve the Student Leader program

  • Will receive a certificate from our Department
  • Will be easier for the academic advisor to write him/her a reference
  • Will be given a priority in the lab helper recruitment of COMP 1021, COMP 1022P and COMP 1022Q in both Fall and Spring semester
  • Will be invited to join the appreciation lunch gathering at the end of the academic year
  • Will be able to learn and practice presentation skill, communication skill, leadership skill and team work
  • Active leaders can be promoted to senior leaders and continue to serve our community in the next academic year. Senior leaders will be involved in planning and developing of internal training and experience sharing activities for the new leaders.
