CSE Students and Faculty Received the UROP Awards
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) recently announced the winners of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) award. Two out of the three winners and their supervisors are from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at HKUST.
The first runner-up for the UROP award was CHEN Siyu, a student from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Decision Analytics supervised by CSE Dr. CHEN Hao. Chen Siyu's project focused on using deep learning techniques for ophthalmologic disease diagnosis. The outcome paper was accepted in the top-tier conference IEEE/CVF Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition 2023.
The second runner-up for the UROP award was WANG Ruida, a student from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering supervised by CSE Prof. Raymond WONG Chi-Wing. Wang Ruida's project focused on enhancing session-based recommendation with neural decision forest techniques. He plans to submit this work to a conference or journal.
Another second runner-up for the UROP award was ZHANG Weiwen, a recent graduate from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering also supervised by CSE Dr. Chen Hao. Zhang Weiwen's project focused on using deep learning techniques for Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) image analysis. The outcome paper has been published in the top-tier conference Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention 2022.
All three winners demonstrated exceptional research skills and potential, and their projects represent significant contributions to their respective fields. Congratulations to Chen Siyu, Wang Ruida, and Zhang Weiwen for their outstanding achievements in the UROP program at HKUST.
