Additional Major(s)
Adding an additional major requires strategic planning, timely submission, and careful navigation of departmental changes. CSE students must obtain coordinator approval and submit Form RR-47 via SIS, while non-CSE students must meet highly selective requirements (CGA > 3.7 and multiple A-range COMP grades) to add a CSE major.
For Currently Enrolled CSE Students
If you are currently in COMP or AI and want to declare an additional major Y (e.g., MATH, QFIN, DSCT, MAEC):
| Step | Action Item | Key Details & Resources |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Prepare & Consult | Create a semester-to-semester study plan, get your latest transcript, and meet with the UG Coordinator of Major Y (the additional major) for verbal approval. |
| 2 | Submit Form RR-47 | Submit the form via SIS during Summer or Winter (once all previous grades are released). Registry Resource Link |
| 3 | Evaluate Degree Options | Review if you want to stay in BEng (COMP/AI + Major Y) or switch to BSc (COSC + Major Y). More details are on the COSC Page. |
| 4 | Graduation Degree | CSE remains your home department. Your final degree is BEng (if in COMP/AI) or BSc (if in COSC), regardless of the additional major's degree type. |
Watch out for the Business Dual Degree (DDP): If you choose a Business Major as your second major, this is a Dual Degree Program (BEng + BBA). It typically requires 150 credits, takes 5 years, and your home department will change from CSE to the Academy of Interdisciplinary Studies (AIS). You must speak directly to the DDP UG Coordinator to proceed.
For Non-CSE Students Adding a CSE Major
If you are in another major (Program X) and wish to add AI, COMP, or COSC as an additional major (X + CSE Major):
| Requirement | Details & Expectations |
|---|---|
| Timing | Must be in Year 2 Spring or above. |
| Academic Standing | Must have a CGA > 3.7. |
| Course Performance | Must achieve A-range grades in multiple core COMP courses (e.g., COMP 1022P/1021/1023, COMP 2011, COMP 2012, COMP 2611, COMP 2711). |
| Application Process | Email the CSE UG Coordinator with your transcript and a semester-to-semester study plan. Upon verbal approval, submit the RR-47 form via SIS. |
| Final Degree | Your graduation degree will follow the degree type associated with your first major X. |
Tip: COSC is highly recommended for double major students as it is structured specifically to provide maximum curriculum flexibility. Check the COSC Page for mapping out your path.
