FYP Oral Presentations and FYT Oral Defenses

After all your hard work, it's time to tell others about your FYP or FYT.

  • If you are giving an FYP oral presentation, you have 40 minutes to explain your project, give a brief demonstration and answer questions from your advisor and the second reader.
  • Suggested time usage during an oral presentation:
    - 20-30 minutes to introduce and explain the project
    - 10-20 minutes to give a demo and answer questions
    - The total time can be less than 40 minutes
    - It's not a good idea to go over 40 minutes if another group is waiting.

  • If you are giving an FYT oral defense, you will be given 40 or 60 minutes to explain your research and answer questions.

  • For grading, your presentation (or defense) is overall worth the same as your final report, so take it very seriously:
    - Advisor's grade weighting on the final report: 35%
    - Second reader's grade weighting on the final report: 35%
    - Advisor's grade weighting on the oral presentation / defense: 30%
    - Second reader's grade weighting on the oral presentation / defense: 40%
(Average grade weighting for the oral presentation / defense: 35%)

FYP Demonstrations

  • Live demonstrations for Android apps can be done via the Android SDK or other Android emulators like these.
  • Live demonstrations for iOS apps can be done via the iOS similator in Xcode or other iOS similators like these.
  • For some projects, it may be necessary to produce a pre-recorded demo video, but be sure to discuss your approach with your FYP advisor.
